How Harry Built An Effective Collaboration With His Designer Teammate

Harry was a freelance programmer from San Francisco. In his ten years as a programmer, he’d largely operated alone. Harry once had a bad experience working with a designer on a team project, and since then, he’d avoided team projects. That is until his previous project. He was in need of cash and the best project available was a collaborative web development project.

How did he manage it?

Harry realised that the fault lay with his own approach. The last time he’d collaborated with a designer, he didn’t give him enough say in the project. This would have to change. As soon as he got in touch with Danny, his designer for the project, he immediately asked him what he had in mind for the design of the website. This first step cleared the way for effective communication to follow. Knowing what Danny had in mind for the design enabled him to inform Danny about what would and wouldn’t work, thus solving future problems.
Harry also came to realize how difficult a designer’s job really was, something he had failed to see during his earlier collaboration. He also saw that his job was less obvious to a layman than he thought. Seeing this, he encouraged Danny to encouraged Danny to approach him with any queries he might have on the back end. In this way, Harry learnt that effective collaboration can go a long way in building a great website.
